Become a stronger, safer and more self-reliant runner with Fell Fit Coaching’s practical map-and-compass masterclass, designed specifically for trail and mountain runners.

Spend a focused, hands-on day in the spectacular Lake District fells learning the key navigation skills that keep you safe, efficient and on line—no matter what the weather brings.

 

I’ve supported runners taking on major challenges including the Bob Graham Round and the Cape Wrath Trail. Whether you’re new to navigation or fine-tuning your skills before a big objective, I’ll meet you at your level and help you build total confidence on the trails.

This one-day, runner-focused navigation course is built around real movement in real terrain. You’ll spend the day actively navigating on the fells, learning skills you can apply immediately to your own training and big mountain goals.

Unlike most company's I only run exclusive days and not big group running day with a max group size of 2 people this means your get the absolute most out you time creating a fun, unique and personal learning enviroment.

What the Course Covers

​

 Map essentials for runners
How to interpret contours, identify key features, choose the right scale, and understand what really matters when you’re moving fast.

​

• Confident compass work
Taking accurate bearings, using them on complex ground, and combining map and compass for precise navigation in all conditions.

​

Route choice and efficiency
How to pick the quickest, safest and most runnable lines — including when to climb, when to contour and when to commit.

​

Relocation techniques
Practical methods to regain your position quickly and calmly if things don’t go to plan.

​

• Navigation in poor visibility
Strategies for staying on track in clag, darkness, wind, rain or when fatigue kicks in.

​

Pacing and timing for runners
How to estimate distance travelled while moving at different speeds, and adapt your technique for racing or long rounds.

​

Real-world problem solving
You’ll navigate between checkpoints, make decisions on the move and practise the skills you need for events like the OMM or multi-day epics.

By the end of the day, you’ll have the tools and confidence to tackle bigger, more remote terrain with clarity and control—so you can run further, faster and safer on any adventure.
